For Sale: Own a Piece of a Maine Lighthouse!

(NECN: Amy Sinclair, Cape Elizabeth, Maine) - A landmark off the coast of Cape Elizabeth, Maine is on the auction block. The federal government hopes to sell Ram Island Ledge Light to the highest bidder, but it could be yours for the bargain basement price of just $49.

When the federal government announced plans to sell historic Ram Island Ledge Light, Bob Muller of Brunswick, Maine pulled out his wallet.

It wasn't because of the Light's prominent role as gatekeeper to Portland Harbor that peaked his interest, it was Muller's desire to test out a new social networking business concept.

Muller hopes to create an online community of owners -- bonded by their desire to own and care for a lighthouse off the Maine coast.

"There's three memberships. You can buy the individual for $49."

Muller figures if he can sell 250,000 deeds, they will have at least enough money to set up a trust fund that would cover the cost for generations. What's in it for him? A job overseeing the project.

Since launching the campaign just a few days ago, Muller already has more than 200 perspective buyers from 18 states.

If you'd like to learn more about the Ram Island Light community project, Muller would love to hear from you. Just go to: http://www.ramislandlighthouse.com.
