Mass. Man Hopes to Raise 10K for YMCA With 24-hour Swim

(NECN: John Moroney, Marblehead, Mass.) – A Massachusetts man is trying to swim for a full 24-hours to raise money for the YMCA.

After 23 hours of swimming, Kim Garbarino said he was tired, but this swim is important to him.

“I grew up at a YMCA in Lynn. I mean, I had the opportunity to go to the YMCA. I think it’s made all the difference in my life,” Garbarino said. “I learned how to swim there as a youngster. I met friends there that are my closest friends to this day, and I think every kid should have the opportunity to be a member of a YMCA.”

Garbarino previously swam the English Channel in the summer of 2012. In addition to the his training in the ocean, he trained for the swim at the YMCA.

Garbarino is hoping to raise $10K. So far, he has raised $6K.
