Doctor: Lice Are Not Dangerous to a Child's Health

(NECN) - A school in New Hampshire is looking to change the way they deal with lice.

A proposal would encourage keeping students with lice in school. It's a move that has some parents scratching their heads.

For more on the subject, we were joined by Boston Children's Hospital Doctor Elisabeth Dipietro.

She said that lice can cause plenty of itching and hassle but are not dangerous to a child’s health and can be treated easily.

Dipietro said that lice are contagious through very close proximity or rarely by sharing materials such as a hat.

She said the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend excluding a child from school due to lice.
