BMC Honors Victims, Heroes of Boston Marathon Bombings

(NECN: Leslie Gaydos, Boston) - Tuesday will mark the one year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Tributes honoring the victims and families, as well as the first responders and hospital staff, were held on Monday at Boston Medical Center.

The Monday morning event kicked off a week of remembrance. A flag of tribute was raised outside of BMC in an emotional ceremony.

Dozens of canvases bearing more than 50,000 signatures and messages for the bombing victims were on display. Folks from across the country took time to create personalized messages of love and support as part of the Prayer Canvas Project.

"We wanted to show Boston how many people cared about them," said Kari Wagner, founder of Prayer Canvas.

The BMC President, CEO, head of the trauma unit and head of the nursing department assisted in the raising of a blue "Boston Strong" flag.
