Suspect Shot and Killed by Boston Police Officer

(NECN: Brendan Monahan, Boston) - Boston Police were involved in a deadly shooting Saturday afternoon.

Police say the incident began when a woman at 77 Lenox Street called 911, reporting that her boyfriend had assaulted her. When officers arrived around 3 p.m. in response, they approached the suspect.

According to police, the suspect drew several knives and lunged at officers.

An officer shot the suspect, striking him in the chest. The suspect was taken to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The incident will be investigated by Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

Neighbors say the incident is a reminder of how volatile domestic violence can be.

The woman who called 911 was not seriously hurt.
