Cousin: Michael Kennedy's Compassion Was Evident in His Charitable Works

(NECN) – Davin Kennedy, the cousin of Boston Firefighter Michael Kennedy who lost his life in a tragic fire in the city’s Back Bay neighborhood, remembered Kennedy at his funeral services on Thursday.

Davin began by thanking the city of Boston, saying that they have shown the Kennedy family what Michael's sacrifice meant to them.

In addition, Davin told many stories of Michael’s strength, compassion, and childhood.

“Mike’s nickname was Dork growing up. For some reason he was really proud of it. Most guys outgrew these names and things like that- not Mike. He owned it,” Davin Kennedy recalled.

“When Mike was discharged from the marines, one of the first things he did was get himself a little brother. I think Alex was 7 when they were matched. Michael loved the kid. Alex gave Michael a way to keep playing, someone to be goofy with and have fun with,” Davin continued.

“One of my favorite memories with him was the day we went skydiving,” Davin remembered. “It was a thrill.”

Davin closed by saying that when Michael’s spirit rose up on Wednesday, he was embraced by members of their family who have already passed on.
