2 Men Rescued After Their Boat Catches Fire

PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (AP) — Two boaters from Connecticut had to be rescued after their boat caught on fire in the Long Island Sound.

Police responded after receiving a call at 1:50 p.m. Sunday about a boat fire four miles north of Long Island's Port Jefferson Harbor.

Officials say flames and heavy smoke were shooting out of the stern of the boat when Suffolk Police Marine Bureau officers arrived at the scene.

According to Newsday, police found the two boaters at the bow of the 40-foot Formula 400 SS boat. They were brought to shore and treated for smoke inhalation.

The boaters were identified as Cary Cieciuch and Kevin Totora of Stratford, Connecticut.

The boat was later towed to shore.
