Three people were brought to an area hospital after being struck by a car in Boston's South End Friday night.

The incident happened around midnight at the intersection of Clarendon Street and Columbus Avenue, according to police.

The driver, Michael Watkins, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol. He fled the scene of the accident, according to police, and was found by officers a short distance away on Tremont Street.

Watkins is a 64-year-old Roxbury resident. The victims told police that while they were in the crosswalk, he beeped at them and then accelerated his car. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on three charges of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, three charges of leaving the scene and one OUI charge.
