Three children were among the five people taken to a hospital after a fire destroyed their South Kingstown home.
The family managed to escape the Monday morning fire and was taken to South County Hospital for evaluation. The home near the University of Rhode Island campus burned to the ground.
The closest fire hydrant was 1,500 feet from the home, and tanker trucks had to be used.
Fire officials tell WJAR-TV that the fire is being ruled accidental and was caused by an electrical malfunction.
