Three Meriden police officers were on what police referred to as administrative assignments after a shooting in October and police said the officers were found to have acted within the law and department policy.
Five officers were traveling in an unmarked vehicle when they began to follow a Buick Century on West Main Street shortly before 10:30 p.m.
The vehicle then traveled onto Interstate 691 eastbound and took exit 10 onto Route 15 southbound. While driving, a gun was discharged from inside of the vehicle, police said.
Officers continued to follow the vehicle onto East Main Street in Meriden and into the CVS parking lot.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 41-year-old Ryan Holley, of Meriden, exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand, according to police.
Officers exited their vehicle and as Holley turned towards them, three officers shot their guns and hit him, police said.

Holley was transported to Hartford Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.
The states attorney found that the officers were justified in discharing theiir firearms and police said the conclusion of the investigation provided the department with the necesarry information to close the internal investigation.
