Newburyport ‘House of Squalor' Family Found Safe

New York State Police say 8-year-old, Brianna Paquette, her mother, 32-year-old Kristen Paquette, and her grandmother, 54-year-old Debra Paquette, were found in the Bronx

The two women sought by police for their alleged role in the Newburyport, Massachusetts, "house of squalor" case are back in custody, along with the little girl police were also looking for, after being found in New York.

Massachusetts State Police say 8-year-old, Brianna Paquette, her mother, 32-year-old Kristen Paquette, and her grandmother, 54-year-old Debra Paquette, were found in the Bronx Monday evening at 9 in a home which belonged to an associate of the Paquettes. They were located by the New York Police Department.

Kristen and Debra were wanted on outstanding warrants after not showing up for their arraignments on reckless endangerment of a child Tuesday. They were taken into custody and are expected to be arraigned Thursday in the Bronx criminal court.

Police say the three were found living in deplorable conditions last month in a home on Strong Street.

DCF filed a missing person report for Brianna after an Essex County Probate and Family Court judge ordered that she be remanded to DCF custody earlier this month.

Police say Brianna “appeared safe and healthy.” She was taken into state protection and arrangements are being made to return her to Massachusetts, where she will be placed into DCF custody.

Debra and Kristen Paquette are expected to waive extradition, according to Newburyport police, and the D.A.'s Office expects the suspects to be brought back Thursday night with a possible arraignment Friday.
