Four people are facing charges in connection with a fatal shootout in Vermont on Tuesday.

Police in Burlington said 23-year-old Benzell Hampton was killed and James Felix, 36, was shot several times in an exchange of gunfire on North Willard Street at about 3 p.m.

Authorities believe Felix, Brandon Sanders, 18, and Johnny Ford, 32, attacked Hampton as he was completing a drug deal. As Hampton was wrestled to the ground, he and his attackers exchanged gunfire.

Police said Lesine Woodson, 32, Sanders, and Ford took Felix to the UVM Medical Center and then fled the scene. Felix's condition remains unclear.

Woodson was taken into custody by police shortly after the incident.

Enfield, Connecticut police said Sanders was located in a vehicle traveling north on Interstate 91 on Wednesday, and Ford was located in a motel. Ford was taken into custody peacefully around 11:30 p.m. after a two-hour standoff. Crack cocaine along with more than $17,000 in cash was found in the motel room.

Authorities said they anticipate that all of the suspects will be charged with second-degree murder in Hampton's death.

Sanders and Ford were each held on $1 million bond in Connecticut as fugitives. Their cases were not listed in online court records and it could not be determined if they have lawyers.
