4 Hospitalized, 2 Year Old in Critical Condition After Fire

A 2-alarm fire ripped through an apartment building in Bridgeport, Conn.

Four people were hospitalized after an early morning two-alarm fire in an apartment building in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Crews responded to 223 Washington Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning. When they arrived, residents were evacuating down a fire escape and out the front door.

Firefighters learned that there were people still inside the building, including inside the apartment where the fire started.

They entered the building and rescued at least four people. They also entered the apartment where the fire was located and rescued several victims, including a two year old child girl.

The child was flown to Shriners Hospital and is listed in critical condition. Her mother is also listed in critical condition.

The fire was contained to one apartment and is under investigation.
