4 Hurt When Plane Slides Off Runway in Maine

Part of the United Express landing gear was torn away and the nose cone was damaged

Officials say a pilot and three passengers suffered minor injuries when a United Express regional jet slid off a slippery runway in northern Maine and came to rest in deep snow.

Images from the scene Monday showed firefighters helping to evacuate passengers from the 50-seat Embraer 145 at the Presque Island International Airport. At least a couple of inches of snow had fallen.

Part of its landing gear was torn away and the nose cone was damaged.

Officials said the flight operated by CommutAir from Newark, New Jersey, with 28 passengers and three crew members landed at the airport at 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The plane came to a rest in snow on the east side of the runway. The injured were tended to by emergency personnel.
