4-Year-Old Killed in Fire

Authorities are investigating a fire that killed a 4-year-old boy and injured three others in Massachusetts.

Westport Fire says the blaze happened at 9 Mount Pleasant St. just before 11 p.m. Saturday, and that the child, later identified as Caleb Nardolillo, was found dead by a firefighter in his second floor bedroom.

Caleb's mother, Melody Nardolillo, 32, and sister, Bella Perry, 7, managed to escape. Both were taken to area hospitals to treat burns and smoke inhalation, along with a third person who tried to rescue the child, officials said. Their conditions are currently unknown.

The injured residents were later identified as the boy's mother, Melody Nardolillo, and 7-year-old Bella Perry, his sister. Neighbors say the other injured person was a 17-year-old boy who lives nearby.

A firefighter was also treated and released for smoke inhalation.

Caleb's great-grandfather said he's heartbroken by his loss.

"You can't say to someone 'I know how you feel.' You don't know how they feel, until it happens to you," Urban Medeiros told necn.

Fire departments from four other towns responded to the fire to help knock it down.

Westport Fire officials say the home is the site of a deadly 1952 fire that killed nine members of the Audette family.

Meanwhile, authorities say the blaze may have started in the kitchen, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
