5 Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-495 in Middleboro, Mass.

The crash happened near exit 3 on the northbound side just after midnight

Details are beginning to emerge about the five people who were killed in a wrong-way crash early Monday morning on Interstate 495 in Middleboro, Massachusetts.

The crash happened near exit 3 on the northbound side just after midnight.

Police believe the sole occupant of a vehicle traveling south crashed head-on into another vehicle, which then burst into flames, killing the four people inside. The wrong-way driver was also killed in the crash.

None of the victims' names have been released by authorities, but state police confirm a 31-year-old woman from Fall River was on the wrong side of the road. In the other vehicle were four male college students, including a 20-year-old from Paxton, a 19-year-old from Barnstable, a 19-year-old from Harwich and an 18-year-old from West Babylon, New York.

Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts confirmed that sophomores Kraig Diggs and Jordan Galvin, both cousins, were among the dead. Another cousin, Jordan Fisher, was also killed.

The family of the young men and community grieve as they remember their loved ones.

"He was our only child. We’re gonna miss him dearly," Jordan Fischer's father Rodney Fischer said. "He was a good kid. He loved school."

Rodney Fischer awaited a text from Jordan as the young men returned home from a trip, but never heard from his son again.

"All of those kids were good kids," Rodney Fischer said. "I loved them all like my own sons."

Barnstable High School Principal Patrick Clark said he was informed by two families that two members of the school's Class of 2015 were killed in the accident. He wouldn't release their names.

Counselors are at the high school to assist any students, Clark said. A meeting is planned at the school on Monday afternoon with students and staff.

The scene has since been cleared and all lanes are open.

The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police. Police said they aren't sure how the wrong-way driver wound up driving southbound on the northbound side of the highway.
