5-Year-Old Dies After Falling Out of Canoe

A 5-year-old Maine boy has died after falling out of a canoe Monday evening in Vassalboro.

According to the Maine Game Warden Service, William Egold died overnight after the incident on Outlet Stream.

William and his mother Mollie were on the stream below the intersection of Oak Grove Road and Route 32.

The swift water caused the canoe to overturn, causing both of them to enter the water. William became trapped by debris and his mother was able to free him and call for help.

William was taken to a local hospital and was later transferred via a helicopter to another hospital, where he later died.

Both William and his mother were wearing life jackets.
