6-Alarm Fire Destroys Vermont Home

Seven people - four adults and three children - were displaced by the blaze

Seven people were left homeless by a 6-alarm fire in Swanton, Vermont, on Wednesday.

The blaze destroyed the two-unit home at 2087 Sheldon Road. The Red Cross said it is providing the displaced residents - four adults and three children - with lodging and emergency funding for clothing, food and other essentials. The agency also provided firefighters with beverages and food at the scene of the 6-alarm fire.

Route 105 in Swanton in the area of Viens Road was temporarily closed due to the fire, which was reported shortly after noon. The road was impassable for a time between Pond and Russell roads, just before the Swanton/Sheldon town line.

One lane was reopened around 2 p.m. Fire crews remain on the scene.
