Police are investigating after the stabbing of a 79-year-old man shocked shoppers at a Star Market in Newton, Massachusetts.

Authorities arrested 23-year-old Matthew Muradov after he allegedly stabbed a victim in a random attack around 2 p.m. Monday at the supermarket in the city's Auburndale neighborhood.

Police say the two men do not know each other.

"It's very scary. I come here with my children," said shopper Natalia Bernhardt. "You never really think to even look around. Oftentimes the kids are walking alone in there, so it's extremely scary."

Margaret Newsum, 93, had no idea that the Camp Fire was rapidly approaching her Magalia home until her caretaker left for the day and she turned on the television. She was quickly rescued by her friend Dane Ray Cummings, who decided to break company policy and rescue Newsum with his Waste Management truck. KCRA reports.

Shoppers say they saw crime tape up near the meat department in the back of the store.

"I'll come here again, but it just makes me more aware," said shopper Becky Cahill. "We're all being more aware of all different experiences. I guess I never thought of this one, but now I will."

When police arrived, the suspect was outside the grocery store and immediately arrested. The victim was tended to inside, and he was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds, but the injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

"I'm almost oblivious to anyone around me when I’m shopping," said Valerie Jacoby. "I feel like this is a really safe area, so it's surprising. But it's not going to stop me from going to Star Market, or going out shopping."

The suspect will be arraigned Tuesday on several charges, including assault with intent to murder. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
