$8K in Equipment Stolen From Jazz Center

The executive director said many players knew about a hidden key and that the key was missing before the theft

The Vermont Jazz Center says someone has stolen more than $8,000 in mixers, speakers, amplifiers and other equipment from its studio in Brattleboro.

Executive Director Eugene Uman tells the Brattleboro Reformer the equipment was taken from the studio in the Cotton Mill Building at around 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 23.

He says the center is a community resource and many of the players who have used the studios over the years knew about a hidden key that allowed access to the center's practice space. He says the key was gone that morning.

Klondike Sound Company of Greenfield, Massachusetts, is loaning the center equipment for a few weeks. Uman said the center will have to dip into its budget and purchase its own equipment soon; the center didn't have insurance.
