A Windy & Soggy Evening

The gusty northeast wind will continue across southeastern New England through midnight. Peak winds could reach 40 to 50 mph across Cape Cod and the Islands before subsiding overnight. Our coastal low pulls away tomorrow, but will bring more showers and wintry weather across New England tonight.

The rain and freezing rain will develop far across the interior overnight as the back edge of the low pressure system heads away from us. It will become icy across the Worcester Hills, interior Maine, Green and White Mountains as temperatures fall to around freezing. The icy conditions will last through the morning rush then temperatures will slowly rise. We stay icy in the mountains for most of the afternoon.

A light wintry mix could accumulate to a couple of inches, with any freezing rain cutting into the snow totals in northern New England. All rain for the Tuesday morning drive across Hartford, Boston and Providence, then drying off as the afternoon goes on. Highs will be in the mid 40s south, and in the upper 30s north.

Another coastal low passes even farther offshore on Wednesday, but it will trigger some rain to snow across higher terrain in central New England for late afternoon and evening.

Our brightest day this week will be Thursday with mostly sunny skies and highs around 50 south. Another round of rain will move in for Friday with highs in the mid 50s. This low pressure system passes northwest and will swing a cold front through Friday night, changing the rain to snow. The system exits in time for a drier Saturday with sun and mid 40s.

Another system moves north of New England Sunday into Monday, bringing a wintry mix north and rain south but the timing is still uncertain. Our temperatures remain in the upper 40s through the day before Thanksgiving.
