ACLU Lawsuit Challenges Planned Traffic Cameras in Manchester, NH

The American Civil Liberties Union of New Hampshire has sued the city of Manchester over planned traffic surveillance cameras, saying the cameras would violate a state privacy law.

The ACLU said the law disallows cameras that capture a driver's identifying information, such as their face or license plate.

The suit, filed Tuesday in Hillsborough County Superior Court, said the installation plan includes three permanent surveillance cameras in the area of City Hall that would look north and south on Elm Street. A live feed would be transmitted to the Manchester Police Department's dispatch office.

An email seeking comment was sent to the mayor's office Tuesday.
