A Boston lawmaker is reportedly proposing a bill that would change an antiquated Massachusetts law that allows inmates who die while their case is under appeal to have that conviction erased.
The Boston Herald reports state Rep. Evandro Carvalho (D-Dorchester) filed the bill after Aaron Hernandez's 2015 conviction for murdering Odin Lloyd was tossed when he hanged himself in his cell on April 19.
Hernandez's conviction being thrown out "highlighted a problem in our system," Carvalho told the Herald.
The former star NFL player was found dead days after he was found not guilty of double murder in a separate 2012 shooting in Boston.
