Abandoned Dog Hit and Killed By Car in Maine

The dog was abandoned near a shelter on Monday

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston, Maine says a person abandoned a dog near the shelter on Monday evening.

On Monday evening a person abandoned a dog near the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. The dog was found a few days later after it had been hit by a car. The dog did not survive. Police are questioning a suspect.

According to a post on the humane society's Facebook page, the dog was found Thursday morning after it had been hit by a car a few miles from the shelter.

The dog did not survive.

The Lewiston Police Department has identified and interviewed the suspect responsible for dropping the dog off.

According to police, the case will be sent to the District Attorney's Office for review and a criminal charge is likely to be filed.

The Humane Society and police thank the public who sent in numerous tips to help identify the suspect. 

Many have taken to the Facebook page to share photos of their own pets to show their support for the dog that passed.

I am so sorry for that pup. My dad rescued me from a dumpster 4 years ago and now I am a world traveler! I wish that big guy had gotten the same chance. Find that person please!!

Thank you for introducing us to our sweet Martha! Tomorrow will be one week since we brought her home, she is getting settled and coming out more to say hello! The kids are ecstatic!

This is Cyhawk, who has traveled to Portland to visit Marcy's Diner (but couldn't go in) as he says a prayer for the abandoned dog that was killed. Please PRESS CHARGES when you find the scum.
