Accused Child Rapist on Mass. Most Wanted List Arrested in Illinois

Zion Vasquez was tracked to an abandoned house in Aurora, Illinois, according to Massachusetts State Police

An accused child rapist who had been on the Massachusetts State Police list of Most Wanted fugitives has been arrested in Aurora, Illinois.

Zion Vasquez, 31, of Leominster, was arrested Thursday after Massachusetts State Police said they tracked him to an abandoned house where he was possibly working as a mechanic.

Authorities said officers approached Vazquez, positively identified him, and took him into custody without incident.

He was taken to Kane County Adult Justice Center in St. Charles, Illinois, where was scheduled to be arraigned as a fugitive from justice. He is awaiting rendition to Massachusetts to stand trial on child rape charges.

Leominster Police said Vasquez is a suspect in multiple sexual assaults against a child under the age of 10. After they had obtained a warrant for his arrest in 2013, Vasquez allegedly fled Leominster.

When Vasquez was added to the state's list of most wanted fugitives last month, police said they received several tips on his possible whereabouts.
