Accused Wreath Thief Questioned

Police have identified a woman accused of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of holiday decorations from Sunshine Farm in Sherborn, Massachusetts.

The Christmas season is a busy time for workers at Sunshine Farm in Sherborn, Massachusetts. They sell hundreds of trees, and their hand-crafted wreaths are another top seller.

Everyone, including a thief wants to get their hands on them.

"The crew's been busy decorating wreaths and getting all of our greens ready, and we noticed that the bench was empty on Friday morning," said owner Jim Geoghegan.

Surveillance video caught the Grinch-like culprit in action. More than $200 worth of wreaths were apparently taken Thursday night by the woman in the footage.

NECN has chosen not to show the woman's face because Sherborn Police, who know her identity, have not yet filed charges in the case.

"It's unfortunate to happen, but we just don't want to see this go on, so we shared it on our Facebook page with our fans and our customers," said Geoghegan.

The video was viewed close to 20,000 times. People across the country saw the wreath-knapper in action, which helped in the Sherborn Police investigation.

"Without them, we probably would have taken a much longer time to identify the suspects, if we were able to," said Luke Tedstone of Sherborn Police.

As for the customers, they weren't happy to hear their local farm was hit by a thief so close to Christmas.

"Absolutely upsetting," said Amy Sullivan. "It's Christmas season, I don't know who would do such a thing."

Geoghegan isn't upset about all of this. He's humbled to see so much community support for his business.

"Thanks to all of our farm fans and Facebook fans," said Geoghegan. "Come on out and enjoy the fire, and bring the kids out, have some marshmallows and hot chocolate by the fire."

Geoghegan says he was able to restock the wreaths for this weekend. The farm is hoping that the stolen wreaths will not put a damper on holiday sales this season.
