Allston ‘Christmas' Returns

What to Know

  • Allston Christmas takes place in Allston, Brighton and other Boston neighborhoods this weekend.
  • Several road closures will occur in the city between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
  • Drivers are reminded to not drive moving vehicles on Storrow Drive due to low bridge clearances.

It's Christmas in September in Allston.

The annual rite happens at the start of every college school year as new leases kick in while older leases expire. Hundreds of current and former student residents leave discarded junk and old furniture along Allston, Brighton and other Boston neighborhood roadways - but these items can be treasure for those looking for a used lamp, couch or chair.

Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. through 8 p.m. the city and police are warning about road closures. From August 31 to September 2, common moving locations are blocked off to allow for moving truck dropoffs, according to the City of Boston website. Parking is restricted on number of streets. For a full list, visit the city's website.

Residents are also reminded to not drive moving trucks on Storrow Drive due to low bridge clearance.
