The head of the Amtrak passenger rail service says efforts are underway to help ensure the service on the Vermonter train will continue.
The comments by Amtrak President Richard Anderson came after he was asked about the Vermonter service by New Hampshire Democratic U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan.
Anderson said previously that rail lines like the Vermonter could be discontinued due to the lack of a safety system known as positive train control.
Hassan said many people in New Hampshire and Vermont rely on the Vermonter, which runs along the Connecticut River from Massachusetts to White River Junction, Vermont, before turning northwest and continuing to St. Albans.
Anderson now says other safety options may be available.
