Another lift at Sugarloaf Mountain has been taken out of service, according to the ski resort's Facebook page.
This comes after engineers identified a design flaw believed to have contributed to an accident that injured seven people at Sugarloaf in March.
The King Pine lift at the Maine resort stopped, and then began sliding backward, on March 21. This prompted frantic riders to jump off.
The Timberline lift, which is the most similar in design to King Pine of any of Sugarloaf's lifts, did not reveal any damage during this week's inspection, but it did reveal an abnormal level of wear and tear to the drive shaft. It has been taken out of service as a precautionary measure, until a new drive shaft can be installed.
The King Pine investigation identified a fracture of the drive shaft as the initial triggering event for the accident on that lift.
Sugarloaf will continue to inspect lifts on an ongoing basis.
