Apartment Fire Burns 1 Person, Displaces 6, Kills Pet in Keene, New Hampshire

Fire Chief Mark Howard says the fire was contained to two rooms in the second-floor apartment

Officials say a woman suffered second-degree burns in an apartment fire in Keene, New Hampshire, that displaced six people and killed a pet.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at the 2½-story apartment house at about 8 p.m. Friday.

Fire Chief Mark Howard says they found flames coming from the second floor and a burned woman on the street.

The woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance, while firefighters searched the building for occupants and extinguished the blaze.

Howard says all occupants had escaped before firefighters arrived, but a dead cat was found in one of the apartments.

He says the fire was contained to two rooms in the second-floor apartment, which suffered heavy heat and smoke damage. There was smoke damage to the first-floor apartment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
