Are Tom Brady and President Trump Friends Again?

The president sent a congratulatory tweet to Brady and the Patriots after their big win over the Chiefs

Are President Donald Trump and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady friends again?

It certainly seemed like it on Sunday night, when Trump sent a congratulatory tweet to Brady, coach Bill Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft after the Patriots' 37-31 overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

"Congratulations to Bob Kraft, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the entire New England Patriots team on a great game and season," he said. "Will be a fantastic Super Bowl!"

The tweet was a bit unusual given that there is still one game left in the season, and Trump did not congratulate the Los Angeles Rams on their win over the New Orleans Saints in the NFC title game.

However, given his history with the Patriots, Trump's tweet wasn't totally out of the blue. He has long been friendly with Kraft and Belichick. His relationship with Brady is more complicated. The two have long been friends, and while running for president, Trump spoke in support of Brady following his 4-game "Deflategate" suspension and has even suggested that he wished his daughter Ivanka had married Brady.

But Brady took a lot of heat in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election for saying that he thought Trump would make a "great" president and for displaying a red "Make America Great Again" hat in his locker. So much so that his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, told him not to talk about politics anymore.

Brady then skipped the Patriots' visit to the White House after the team won the Super Bowl in 2017, a move that reportedly angered Trump. And when Trump attacked NFL players for kneeling during the National Anthem, Brady called the president's comments "divisive."

Maybe the president's tweet was an attempt at reconciliation?
