A Massachusetts man is facing charges in connection with last month's fatal hit-and-run crash in Boston's Charlestown neighborhood, according to police.
Everett resident Allen Williams, 65, was arrested Monday morning in connection with the July 25 crash. He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident after causing death and operating a motor vehicle after suspension or revocation.
Police had responded to an area of Alford Street just north of the Mystic River, near the border with Everett, at 11:24 p.m., where they found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries. That man, identified as 59-year-old Humberto Castaneda, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Since the crash, investigators had been searching for a white Ford F-150 pickup with plywood fencing. The truck, believed to have been involved in crash was located July 27 at Warren and Waverly streets in Everett.
During his appearance Monday in Charlestown District Court, prosecutors said Williams told police he knew he hit something that night but did not know what.
Williams said he doubled back to check but did not see anything in the roadway. He added that he didn't realize he hit anyone until the next day when he was approached by investigators.
Williams posted $1,500 bail, was released, and is due back in court Sept. 19. It's unclear if Williams has an attorney.
