A Massachusetts man is being held on $10,000 bail in connection with a hit-and-run crash near the Sagamore Bridge in Bourne Tuesday night.
Gregory May, 35, of Duxbury, was arraigned Wednesday in Falmouth District Court on charges of leaving the scene of a crash. He was arrested by state police earlier in the day at a relative's home in Bourne.
State police responded to a hit-and-run crash on Route 6 east just after 8 p.m. Tuesday and found that an off-duty trooper driving a Volkswagen Passat had been struck head-on by the driver of a Toyota who had allegedly crossed the center line.
The trooper who was struck said the driver of the Toyota, later identified as May, fled the scene and jumped into the back of a passing landscaping truck.
By the time police found the owner of the landscaping truck, the stowaway was long gone.
The driver of the trailer told NBC10 Boston he had no idea he was drivign a fugitive. His boss, who owns the trailer, said May must have slipped into it while the vehicle was stopped because of the crash.
"He stopped probably 10, 15 minutes," said Adilson Segolini. "I think that the moment he stopped, the guy jump in."

Prosecutor Matt Palazola said May's bizarre getaway is why he should remain held.
"The fact that he jumped on a trailer to flee the scene of an accident is relevant to whether he would show up in court for his next court appearance," said Palazola.
Defense attorney Jim Morse argued that May is gainfully employed.
"He's a lifelong resident of Duxbury. He's gainfully employed at a golf course," said Morse.
The trooper and his wife, who was also in the car with him, were both taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth for minor injuries.
The judge ordered May held on $10,000 bail and to wear a GPS monitoring device. He's due back in court June 18.
