A Massachusetts man is facing multiple charges in connection with an apparent home invasion in Athol Tuesday night, according to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office.

Timothy J. Murphy, 58, of Athol, is expected to face charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), attempted murder, home invasion, vandalizing property, and breaking and entering in the nighttime in the attempt to commit a felony.

Authorities said officers responded to a Lenox Street home just before midnight for a report of an apparent home invasion. When they arrived, two victims were suffering from lacerations to their necks.

The victims, who have not been identified, were taken to an area hospital where they are expected to be OK.

Some Leavenworth County, Kansas, officials are calling for Commissioner Louis Klemp's resignation after he insulted a black woman who had just presented a land-use study to the commission. "I don't want you to think I am picking on you because we are part of the master race. You have a gap in your teeth. We are part of the master race, don't you forget that," Klemp said.
