A Maine city says it has made a tentative deal with a family that sued over officials blocking them driving across a public works site to reach their home.

The proposal would allow the Poulin family to cross the Augusta-owned public works property to reach their home, but only during the day and if they let public works officials know they are coming ahead of time. The Kennebec Journal reports the deal is subject to approval by city councilors.

The family says their only access to their home other than the public works site is a steep flight of 100 stairs, a challenge for members of the household with mobility issues.

City attorney Stephen Langsdorf said Wednesday that councilors will consider the agreement Dec. 6.
