Authorities Probe Stun Gun Use on Accident Victim Who Died

State police are investigating a trooper's use of a stun gun on a man who suffered head injuries in a motor vehicle accident in West Haven and later died.

Authorities said Thomas Lane, 37, of Ansonia, became combative and injured at least one first responder who trying to remove him from his Jeep after his SUV was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in West Haven around 1 a.m. Monday and had rolled down an embankment, trapping Lane inside.

State police said the trooper used his stun gun when Lane attempted to harm himself and others.

Lane was taken to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

An autopsy is to be held.

The Milford State Attorney's Office has been notified.
