A meth lab was discovered in an Oakfield, Maine, home early Tuesday morning after a 911 caller said someone inside was "trying to burn the house down," according to state police.
Authorities say Maine State Trooper Carmen Lilley responded to the call on River Road and found people at the residence who appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine, could smell a strong chemical odor and saw materials used in making meth; suspecting meth was being made, Trooper Lilley evacuated the house and alerted the state's DEA clandestine lab response team and arrested the homeowner, 39-year-old Douglas Morin, on a domestic violence related offense, according to police.
Authorities say they then gained a search warrant for Morin's house, and found "significant amount of evidence" of meth manufacturing after the warrant was served.
Morin has been charged with drug trafficking and is being held in Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. His bail has been set at $10,000 cash.
Maine State Police add that the Oakfield lab take down is the 18th one so far this year; 20 meth labs were discovered and dismantled in Maine in 2013, which police say is a state record.
