Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Taunton, Massachusetts

Michael Alfano died Friday after being struck and dragged by a car

A bicyclist struck by a hit-and-run driver Thursday afternoon in Taunton, Massachusetts, has died from his injuries, according to police.

Authorities confirmed Saturday that 36-year-old Michael Alfano died Friday evening at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Alfano was hit by a car while he was riding his bike in a crosswalk at the intersection of Washington Street and Broadway at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday. He was thrown from the bike and dragged down the street under the car.

Officers found Alfano, a Taunton resident, lying in the road with severe head trauma. He was taken to Morton Hospital then by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women's, where he had remained.

Police said they located a bike tire in the road and later found the rest of the bike in some woods off Park Street. That's the same area where police said they found a gray 2010 Toyota Venza they believe was involved in the crash.

No arrests have been made, but police say the Toyota is registered to a Bridgewater resident.
