The bitter cold once again impacted service on several commuter rails and subway lines on the MBTA Friday morning.
According to the MBTA website, there were severe delays on the northbound side of the Orange Line due to a disabled train at Tufts Medical Center. During the morning commute, shuttle buses had to replace service on the line between Wellington and Community College in both directions due to a track problem on the Dana Bridge.
Also during the morning commute, the Green Line B branch also experienced moderate eastbound delays due to a disabled train at Chiswick Road and the Red Line experienced minor delays due to a disabled train.
Keolis Boston issued a statement saying that both Keolis and MBTA crews took preventive steps ahead of time to reduce the delays in the frigid temperatures.
"Keolis and MBTA crews took preventive steps ahead of the drop in temperatures to reduce the impact, but even with the best precautions train service can be impacted with the extreme conditions we’re experiencing. Our pre-positioned teams have been working through the night to repair the cracked rails and broken switches that are impacting service this morning," read the statement from Tory Mazzola, Director of Keolis Public Affairs.
Several delays due to the cold weather were reported Thursday on MBTA trains and buses throughout Boston and on the Stoughton, Haverhill, Needham, Franklin, Middleborough, Providence and Greenbush lines.
