Black Friday Shoppers Hit N.H. Mall

At the Rockingham Mall it's a marathon two days of shopping. Some stores opened Thursday afternoon and will stay open all night

In New Hampshire the Black Friday madness begins on Thanksgiving and hundreds flocked to stores to get the best deals they could find.

For the Mall at Rockingham Park it's a marathon two days of shopping. Some stores opened Thursday afternoon and will stay open all night.

Blue laws prevent stores in Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island from opening on the holiday.
Shoppers in those states have to wait until midnight, unless they cross state lines.

People realized pretty quickly that savings add up even more in New Hampshire without the sales tax.

One shopper we spoke to said, "The first year I don't know that it was that well-known what we were doing, but the past few years it has really grown exponentially."

And just like on Black Friday, shoppers come in early and line up.

Shopper Saira Jahn said, “It’s fun because of all the deals and it's exciting to see all the people get pumped up. We were waiting at Forever 21 and my sister was making plans."

But just because stores can open many opt not to. At some stores the majority of employees volunteer to work.

The mall will close at 1 a.m. and open at 6 a.m., but JCPenney, Macy's and Dick’s will stay open all night.
