Boater Charged in Wake of Boat Crash

A spokeswoman for the state Department of Environmental Management says 55-year-old Michael Sheridan, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, is charged with refusing an alcohol test

The operator of a power boat that crashed in Mount Hope Bay in Rhode Island last weekend, injuring himself and two passengers, has been charged.

A spokeswoman for the state Department of Environmental Management says 55-year-old Michael Sheridan, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, is charged with refusing an alcohol test. He was served with a summons to appear in District Court in Providence on Aug. 28.

Investigators say Sheridan was driving a 19-foot open power boat that struck an unoccupied moored sailboat in the vicinity of Bristol Narrows around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Three people, including Sheridan, were taken from the water to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence for treatment.
