Officials Identify Body Found on Mass Pike in Auburn

Authorities have released the name of the man whose dead body was found on the Massachusetts Turnpike earlier this week.

The victim has been identified as Johannes H. Songdahl III, 22, of Norwell, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.

How Songdahl ended up on the highway remains under investigation.

His body was found at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday on the westbound side of Interstate 90 near Exit 10.

There is no overpass nearby. Troopers did not locate any unattended vehicles in the area and there were no prior reports of pedestrians in the road.

The victim had suffered what were described as "severe injuries'' and authorities could not immediately determine the victim's gender.

The investigation caused massive traffic backups.

State troopers are seeking witnesses who traveled on the Mass. Turnpike around 10 p.m. for more information. 

No futher information is expected to be released Friday.
