Boston, Burlington, Vermont, Had 4th Warmest August on Record

The high temperature in both cities was 91 degrees

Today is Sept. 1, and the start of Meteorological Fall. Now that we have all the data from August, we have a clear understanding of exactly how warm it was.

Boston and Burlington, Vermont, officially had their fourth warmest August on record. Providence, Rhode Island, had its sixth warmest August on record.

Just to put it in perspective, Burlington hasn’t seen such warmth in 131 years (since 1884). Its highest temperature this August was 91 degrees on Aug. 18 and again on the Aug. 20. Burlington averaged 3.5 degrees above the average.

In Boston, 91 degrees was also the hottest temperature. Boston hit 91 on Aug. 15 and Aug. 17.

Summer doesn't officially end until Sept. 23, and with the weather pattern as it is, it’s not out of the question that we can break some additional records in the month to come.
