Boston Man Found Guilty of Murder; Brother, Son Cleared

Elias Sanchez was found guilty on Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court of beating and stabbing 29-year-old Edwin Santos outside a store in the city's Dorchester neighborhood in November 2013

A Boston man has been convicted of second-degree murder for killing a man nearly three years ago, but his brother and teenage son were acquitted of charges that they played a role in the same attack.

Elias Sanchez was found guilty on Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court of beating and stabbing 29-year-old Edwin Santos outside a store in the city's Dorchester neighborhood in November 2013.

Prosecutors alleged that Sanchez's brother, 35-year-old Gabriel Sanchez, and his son, 19-year-old Angel Sanchez, also participated in the attack. But the jury cleared them.

All three men were originally indicted on first-degree murder charges.

Forty-six-year-old Elias Sanchez faces a mandatory term of life in prison with the possibility of parole at sentencing on Friday.

Prosecutors previously said the suspects and the victim knew each other.
