Boston Police shot and killed a suspect who allegedly fired a gun at two officers.

The shooting happened Monday afternoon on Pennhallow Street in Dorchester. Police said the suspect, a 19-year-old male, was seen fleeing the scene of an earlier incident on nearby Geneva Avenue.

Commissioner William Gross said officers responded to a report that a person had been shot on Geneva Avenue around 5:15 p.m. Initially, authorities said a person suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting. Gross later clarified that shots were fired, but no one was hit.

Two men were seen fleeing on foot, and Gross said two officers from the bicycle unit encountered one of them on Pennhallow Street.

Gross said the officers noticed the man was holding a gun and commanded him to drop it.

"This was also confirmed by numerous witnesses on scene, that the officers were issuing for several verbal commands for the suspect to drop the firearm, to no avail," Gross said. "Also, according to several witnesses, the suspect then pointed the firearm at the officers and discharged the firearm at the Boston Police officers."

Gross said the officers shot back, hitting the suspect, then rendered first aid. He was pronounced dead after Boston EMS crews arrived.

According to Gross, the bicycle unit has not been issued body-worn cameras. Authorities are reviewing footage from the body cameras of other officers who responded.

Police are continuing to search for the second suspect.

    The shooting is under investigation.
