2 Arrested in Shooting of 8-Year-Old Girl, Man at Dorchester Park on July 4

Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting that left an 8-year-old girl injured at a playground in Boston earlier this month.

Gunshots dramatically cut short families' July Fourth fun at Mary Hannon Playground in Dorchester. The shooting resulted in injuries to the child and a 35-year-old man just before 11 p.m.

"We arrested two individuals for the shooting of a 35-year-old male and in connection with the shooting of an 8-year-old girl," Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said Friday night.

Gross said 28-year-old Ian King of Dorchester and 31-year-old Nathas Jacquecine of Boston were arrested Friday afternoon.

The commissioner thanked detectives he said worked nonstop for eight days, as well as the community.

"We will solve these crimes," Gross said. "Everyone needs to know it's not everybody in the community committing these crimes."

The charges the suspects face include assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and discharging a firearm near a home.

King and Jacquecine are due to be arraigned Monday in Dorchester District Court. It was not immediately clear if they had attorneys.
