Boston Public Library's Missing Artwork Has Been Found

Two prints worth hundreds of thousands of dollars that were missing from the Boston Public Library were found just 80 feet away from where they were supposed to be.

"There was a group of people weeping for joy smiling hugs we just were so thrilled to have found the missing artwork," said the library's president, Amy Ryan.

Library workers spent eight weeks searching through the 320,000 items in the library's print stack.

The Rembrandt etching and the Albright Durer engraving were found together.

"I'm glad it's found, certainly concern that it was missing," said Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. "Obviously, a lot of confusion was caused there with the U.S. Attorneys Office and the Boston Police Department, but happy they were found."

In this case, security wasn't the issue but Mayor Marty Walsh says the police will continue to audit the library's inventory and his office will continue to seek change.

There have been reports that other items may be missing.

"We absolutely need reforms there's still missing pieces of coins and allegedly missing music sheets, so we still have to do reforms," said Walsh.

But Ryan won't be part of those reforms. Just a day before the art was found, she announced her resignation, effective July 30.

It's decision she has no plans to take back.

"It was time," she explained. "Now, I have resigned and I'm moving in another direction."

Ryan's resignation doesn't go into effect until a month from now.

The woman in charge of the print room has been on administrative leave. Ryan wouldn't comment on whether she will now return to work.
