Boston Red Sox Announce Roster Moves, New Coaching Staff

The Boston Red Sox were very busy on Thursday, hiring Tony La Russa, making several roster moves and announcing its new coaching staff.

The team said it has exercised its 2018 options on closer Craig Kimbrel and staff ace Chris Sale.

Infielder Marco Hernandez and pitchers Tyler Thornberg and Steven Wright were reinstated from the 60-day disabled list. Reliever Robbie Ross Jr. and infielder Josh Rutledge were also reinstated from the disabled list but have elected to become free agents.

Pawtucket Red Sox outfielder Bryce Brentz and pitcher Williams Jerez were also added to the major league roster.

The team also announced that former Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke, who served as the Los Angeles Angels' third base coach for the past two seasons, has been hired to serve as new manager Alex Cora's bench coach.

Former major league players Tom Goodwin and Carlos Febles will serve as the team's first and third base coaches, respectively, and Dana LeVangie will return to the major league staff as bullpen coach.
