Boston Red Sox David Ortiz Leaves Door Open for One More Year

"Would you leave $25 million on the table?" Ortiz asked

Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz seemed to leave the door open for a possible return next season in a new Yahoo Sports interview.

Ortiz, who announced before this season that he will retire after this year, told Yahoo's Jeff Passan that he's happy with the decision that he made.

"I think I played enough baseball," he said. But then he followed up with what sounded like a message for Red Sox management.

"Hopefully," he said. "nobody comes to me and offers $25 million, either."

Ortiz will be paid $16 million this season, and the club holds $16 million options for the next two seasons. But if they want to convince him not to retire, it sounds like they'll have to up the ante.

"I don't even want to talk about it," he added. "Like I said, I'm good with the decision that I made right now. But would you leave $25 million on the table? I don't want nobody to offer me that."
