Boston Says Goodbye During Menino's Final Ride Home

Carrying signs reading "Thank You Mayor Menino," people lined the streets of Boston as the beloved former mayor's hearse passed.

Longtime Boston Mayor Tom Menino wanted a final chance to connect to the people he loved and served.

During his final ride through the city he loved so much, the people of Boston turned out, lining the streets to say goodbye.

"We just want to say we love Mayor Menino for everything he did for the community and the people," said one woman.

From Faneuil Hall, the mayor started his final journey home to Hyde Park, passing City Hall, the place where he worked for more than 30 years, helping to transform Boston in the process.

The mayor's motorcade rode through Kenmore Square. The city's longest-serving CEO relocated there and joined the faculty at Boston University upon his retirement.

"You got to talk to him personally and really felt that he was actually interested in what you were saying and was connected with you," said BU Assistant Dean of Students Raul Fernandez."
